If there was ever a year for community banks to make their voices heard on credit unions, this is it. OBL is actively fighting to block the proposed acquisition of an Ohio community bank by an out-of-state credit union because we believe it violates Ohio law and threatens the future of tax-paying community banks in our state. That is why your participation at OBL Day at the Capitol on June 2 & 3 is so important - lawmakers need to hear directly from bankers about why credit unions should not be allowed to buy community banks. Join the fight and help us educate elected officials while we also advocate for major anti-fraud legislation that will directly benefit Ohio banks and their customers.
Kicking off at the Athletic Club of Columbus on June 2, there will be a briefing before heading off to the Capitol for legislative meetings. Lunchtime programming will consist of A View from Both Sides of the Desk with Senator Steve Wilson and a meeting with Ohio Treasurer of State Candidates. The day will cap-off with a roundtable discussion with the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions and a legislative reception.
The optional second day, June 3, will begin with a breakfast with Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman. From there, attendees can join an Ohio BankPac fundraising event or the OBL's new Emerging Leaders Program. The Emerging Leaders Program is for those newer to advocacy.
